I let her go……..

Photobucket

yes… she did it…
she rode a bike!
I was there… the first time she was on two wheels and let me tell you… my heart may have stopped…
it was a HUGE deal!
something about holding her small little back… hold it… hold it…
then BAM…!
letting go………….!
it was HUGE!!!
and I still feel my heart skip when she gets on her two wheels… something about that big step makes her a big girl.
Riding bikes might sum up my childhood… I was riding since I can remember… always on the go! growing up in the country, kids are pretty free… my mother would tell me I had to go outside… “you have to get fresh air or you will get sick!”
I’m so glad I did!… because man oh man I had fun!
and you probably know… that philosophy is still strong in my own children… I like them to be outside… more than inside!
getting thorns in their barefeet… scraping a knee… it’s childhood!
and that day she got on two wheels brought me back…
and I loved it!
I let her go… on the bicycle that I learned how to ride on… that my brother learned how to ride on…
that I crashed into the creek on… that I scraped my knee on so bad that it bled for a day… the bicycle that I felt like I was flying and would get little mosquitoes stuck to my cheeks because I would go so fast…
that … letting go … was beautiful!

I love this pic… I love to wonder what our youngest is thinking… imagining… wishing for…
She looks up to her big sister so much…
it’s the sweetest thing!

sometimes you have to pull out the ol’ cycle with trainers… for sister to ride on the back of, of course!

this time of year has been the best for sitting outside until dark… covering our driveway with little rainbows and stars…
chalking up our jeans knees… staining our palms with rose colored chalk… then clapping them together to get the big cloud!

an evening with a bowl of rice pudding and “Charlie Brown Christmas” can be so simple and so much fun!!!
