this is one of my favorite places in the village we visit in Sweden…

It’s a garden shop… lots of land full of flowers, vegetables, greenhouses, fruit trees, herbs, a cafe, and a playground… what more could I ask for.

so one of our last days in Sweden it was a little bit rainy and Pappa went out with his old pals for a guys day hiking… so me and the girls and Farmor (Grandma)went to this sweet little haven!

in fact… cool enough… in the springtime Farmor worked here a bit…

Farmor explained all the little nooks of this place… told us how they plant things… where the soil is… the compost… introduced us to some of the people there… it was so much fun!

While the girls were playing on the swings another set of children came about… I had the most interested conversations with this little boy… didn’t even get his name… but he was absolutely fascinating!

He noticed that I spoke English so he came over and introduced himself so confidently which always is impressive to me… children are so amazing and curious to the world and this little boy truly shined!

He said in perfect English that his mother is from Finland and his father is from New Zealand… he lives in this part of Sweden just now and lives in Austria for the summertime. I think he said he was eight and loved to learn new things. He told me he spoke Finnish, English, Swedish, German, French, and was hoping to learn Japanese soon. Here I am with my jaw on the ground trying to sound somewhat smart myself. I was truly impressed and expressed to him how interesting he was. He said he loved different cultures and places in the world and was interested in so many things. I really know that this little soul will soar completely… I will always remember our little conversation…

We are always explaining to our children different cultures and ways of life… but really the best way to do this is to take your children to other lands… meet other people from different places. You can only teach your children so much but to actually dive into learning is so much more.

I know we are lucky to have Sweden to explore… for our children to learn about different cultures…

When we decided to have children we made a promise to take them to Pappa Mattias’ mother-land every year… we promised to travel with them… to see the world together as a family. To learn about this Earth with them. It’s not easy… it’s not free. We don’t live in a mansion… we don’t drive fancy cars… but we do travel.

This is what we spend our money on… and it feels so so good!
